Blue - When you see the colour blue, you think of the sky and water. Blue is symbolised trust, intelligence and wisdom. Also blue isassociated with health, as it has a calming effect. It also gives the sense of sadness, "I'm feeling blue". This states that the person is feeling sad or depressed. Blue is also very masculine, it is a very good colour for magazines targeted to boys/men because it appeals to them. This will be effective for a mast head beacsue it will atract male readers and it is also very eye catching.
Green - When you see the colour green, nature is the first thing you think of, it symbolises freshness and growth. Another connotation is Safety, like a first aid box, they are mostly green, so when we see green we think health and safety. Green also connotes GO, e.g. at traffic lights, whereas Red symbolises STOP. Green would be a suitable masthead for a helthy or safety magazine.
Orange - When you see the colour orange, you instantly think of joy, enthusiasm, happiness and creativity. Its a little bit like red and resembles heat but its not as aggressive as Red. It is highly accepted among young people. As a citrus color, orange is associated with healthy food and stimulates appetite. I dont thiink Orange would be a good choice, it doesnt contrast that well with othe colours, it could be effective in a nature magazine.
Yellow - When you see the colour Yellow, joy, happiness and energy. The reason yellow is linked to happiness i think is because you think of sunshine and nice weather which is nice. It can also be linked with cowardice. It can show caution/danger. Its also shows caution/danger, like at a crime scene, there is yellow tape to show cation, or a wet floor sign.
White - When you see the colour White, you think light, goodness, innocence, purity, and virginity. It is considered to be the colour of perfection. White means safety, purity, and cleanliness. As opposed to black, white usually has a positive connotation.
Black - When you see the colour Black, you think of power, elegance, formality, death, evil, and mystery. Black is a mysterious colour associated with fear and the unknown, like black horses. It usually has a negative connotation . Black gives the feeling of perspective and depth, but a black background diminishes readability. A black suit or dress can make you look thinner. When designing for a gallery of art or photography, you can use a black or grey background to make the other colours stand out. Black contrasts well with bright colours, combined with red or orange – other very powerful colours – black gives a very aggressive colour scheme.
